Capital City Marathon Directions to Race Viewing Sites

To ensure the safety of the runners, please avoid using the course to access viewing opportunities. Here are four suggested sites and directions on how to reach them without using the course. All directions are from the start area.

Site One: (This is approximately the 15-mile mark of the marathon, on Lemon Road) From Washington St. go north 3 blocks to 4th Avenue. Turn left on 4th and head east. 4th Ave. becomes Martin Way at the top of the hill (just past the Thiftway store on your left) at a major intersection. Go through the light and turn left on Phoenix St. then turn right on South Bay Rd. Remain on South Bay Rd. for several miles. Turn left on Schincke Rd. As it curves to the left, it will come to a stop at Lemon Rd. Use caution parking on the side of the road, and walk to the corner of Lemon and Schincke. This is a great viewing area as the runners come up the hill from Woodard Bay Rd. to Lemon Rd.

Site Two: (This is the 18-mile mark of the marathon and the 5-mile mark of the half marathon)
From Washington St. go north on 4th Ave. and take a left on Puget St. Stay on Puget, crossing San Francisco. Take a right on Miller Ave. USE EXTREME CAUTION IN THIS AREA AS THIS IS PART OF THE RACE COURSE! Turn left on Bethel to 26th. Take a right on 26th to the John Rogers School campus on the right. Park at the school and walk to the corner of 26th and Friendly Grove Rd.

Site Three: (This is approximately 21-mile mark of the marathon and the 7.5 mile-mark of the half marathon) Use the same instructions as Site Two but make a right turn from Puget to San Francisco. Park off street before you reach the intersection of San Francisco and Bethel. There is also parking available at Roosevelt Elementary on the right side of the intersection. Coffee and good bakery items available at the San Francisco Street Bakery!

Site Four: (This is the 22-mile mark of the marathon and the 9-mile mark of the half marathon) From Washington St. go east on 8th St. to Eastside. DO NOT CROSS EASTSIDE. Park off street or in the lot on the corner of 8th and Eastside. Watch the runners as they start on Eastside St. or walk one block north (take a left) and stand on the corner to see runners coming down the hill on Legion.

PLEASE USE CAUTION TO REACH THESE SITES. BE COURTEOUS AND DO NOT INTERFERE WITH THE RUNNERS.
